Sam Strike to Play Young Leatherface

Sam Strike, best known for his role on the UK’s enduring EastEnders, will essay a young Leatherface in the upcoming Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury-directed film chronicling the killer’s youth.

The Wrap reports Strike is in negotiations for the role in the simply-titled Leatherface, a film expected to see an adolescent version of the Texas Chain Saw icon break out of an asylum and run amok with some fellow, disturbed patients.

The site writes that the film takes place in the early 1970s, further mystifying the continuity of the series. Produced by Millennium Films, Leatherface is likely a prequel to their 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D, which famously attempted to place itself in the original 1974 film’s timeline. That made little mathematical sense as young star Alexandra Daddario’s character would’ve needed to be far older, or the film would’ve needed to be a 90s period piece. Of course, Leatherface’s age is never disclosed in Tobe Hooper’s classic film, and so it could be a hulking youngster behind the skin mask.
