While its predecessor eschewed a framing device, host or lead investigatorutilizing only its awesome, melodramatic opening titles as introthe upcoming new iteration of Tales from the Darkside will see Kris Lemche star as the only regular, a tortured young man.
Deadline reports Lemche, whos appeared in Existenz, Ginger Snaps and My Little Eye, the weathered guide to the unsuspecting who come across The Darkside. Newman a man with his own desperate, wrenching secrets knows exactly whats causing the terrifying Darkside Events that drive the series. What he doesnt know is how to stop them.
Its evident that the pilot, from writer Joe Hill, will be a different beast. Hopefully the presence of Newman doesnt soften the anthology spirit. Currently, Bradley Buecker, a vet of Glee and American Horror Story, is credited with helming the first episode for the CW series. Hill, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci produce alongside Heather Kadin, Mitch Galin and Jerry Golod.
Tales From the Darkside initially ran for four seasons from 1984-1988. The series, in the tradition of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, was created by George A. Romero and featured contributions from Romero, Tom Savini, Robert Bloch and more. The series adapted works by Cliver Barker, Harlan Ellison and Stephen King (Hills father). Tales From the Darkside: The Movie, directed by John Harrison, released in May of 1990.
