Lucy Lawless, iconic to many as Xena, delightfully pulpy in Spartacus and who’s since been seen in Top of the Lake and Parks and Recreation is showing up in Salem next. Her Season Two appearance as a German witch Countess Marburg teased in the series’ latest trailer.
Returning this April, Salem looks to be leaning in to all things bloody, sneering and pulp. In the season, “As the disease and devastation unleashed by a deadly supernatural ritual spread through the war-torn village, Salems most powerful witch, Mary Sibley, must face off against adversaries old and new who are vying for her throne. Lawless is Countess Marburg, “one of the last descendants of a legendary line of German witches” and one who refers to herself as the last of the true witches.
Listen, I’m a sucker for period horror and witch horror. So much so, that a trailer with someone singing a creepy lullaby won’t deter me. Salem is back April 5th.
