Young filmmaker Mickey Keating debuted in 2013 with Ritual, a film built around a simple idea and which proceeded to go utterly nutty with intense, surreal style. It was a terrific introduction, and Im excited to see where he heads when second feature Pod premieres as a SXSW Midnighter down in Austin this March. Our first look at the rural terror, starring Jug Faces Lauren Ashley Carter, has hit courtesy of the festival.
In Pod, After receiving a cryptic message from their war veteran brother, Martin, estranged siblings Ed and Lyla travel up to their isolated family lake house to hold an intervention. But the terror that they encounter within the snowy confines of the ransacked retreat is far beyond anything that they could have possibly anticipated.
It seems the film is being intentionally obtuse about what exactly Martins engaged in, though the title of the film could garner a few guesses.
Pod premieres Monday, March 16 at SXSW. Expect much more on the film and the entire slate of Midnighters in the coming weeks. For more, see the full lineup here.
