The Walking Dead is set to return this Sunday for the second half of its fifth season, one marked by a resurgence in critical acclaim and teasers bearing hope for the show’s ensemble. Ahead of this weekend, AMC has released the first few minutes of the mid-season premiere online.
That hint of optimism is nicely juxtaposed with somber reality in these opening moments, imbued with as much elegy and grave digging and skeletal remains, as it is sunshine and endurance. It seems Rick & co. are off for another trek, and given The Walking Dead’s strong word, it’s one I’m considering tagging along.
