Jamie Dornan has a different type of bedside manner in Alex Aja’s The 9th Life of Louis Drax.
Debuted by Empire, likely just as star Dornan’s Fifty Shades of Grey is about to hit theaters, this first look at The 9th Life of Louis Drax sets the stage for the film’s “mental journeys.” In the thriller, which co-star Sarah Gadon compared to films like Vertigo and Otto Preminger’s Bunny Lake is Missing, it’s “Louis Drax’s (Longworth) 9th birthday, when he miraculously survives a near fatal fall. His doctor Allan Pascal (Dornan) finds himself tangled between his professional responsibility and his growing affections for the boy’s mother (Gadon), a fragile young beauty. When Louis’ father (Paul) comes under suspicion, Pascal realizes other mysterious forces may be at work.”
Miramax produces and Aja directs from a script by his Horns actor, Max Minghella. Minghella adapts from the novel by Liz Jensen.
