There are over 20 filmed adaptations, re-imaginings and retellings of Gaston Lerouxs The Phantom of the Opera, but only one stars Robert Englund.
From Dwight Little, the director of Halloween 4 and Murder at 1600, 1989s The Phantom of the Opera was a poorly received, overtly horrific take on the classic tale, starring Freddy himself. Two of those qualitiesthe poorly received and overtly horrificbeing what Scream Factory, the cult offshoot of Shout! Factory, tends to specialize in. Fitting then, that Scream will release The Phantom of the Opera this February 17, 2015 on Blu-ray.
Starring Englund and Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather, Popcorn), The Phantom of the Opera also features makeup FX from designer Kevin Yagher, who previously made Englund especially grotesque in Nightmare on Elm St 2, as well as worked on Dream Warriors, Dream Master, Trick or Treat and more. All three, including director Dwight Little are featured on the upcoming Scream Factory Blu in new interviews. Find the full list of extras, as well as the films synopsis and cover art, below.
