The last chapter was helmed by Jaume Balaguero, co-director of the first two films (his co-director Paco Plaza helmed REC 3).
Where the third film took a slight tonal detour towards horror-comedy, the fourth is a return to straight-up horror.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this year in the Midnight Madness section.
REC 4 picks up a few hours after the gruesome events of REC 2, where an elite squad of soldiers has infiltrated an apartment complex teeming with the victims of a demonic possession virus that has transformed them into vicious killers, in an attempt to extract a young reporter, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco).
Angela wakes up in a high-security quarantine facility located deep in the bowels of a giant ocean freighter. But her ordeal isnt over, as the terrifying virus has made it on board with her, taking the series to a spectacular and bloody finish on the high seas.
Weve loved the [REC] series from the beginning, and this final installment brings it to a truly satisfying and scary conclusion, said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. Fans of the films will be very pleased.”
