Kate Beckinsale won’t be back for the fifth Underworld film – Underworld: Next Generation – but that doesn’t rule her out entirely should the franchise continue.
In talking with IGN this weekend, Len Wiseman – who has remained on board the series wearing multiple hats – said that they’re developing a number of projects in the Underworld universe, including the long-mooted television series.
“There’s a few things being developed right now,” he told the the outlet. “There’s some characters we really liked – there’s kind of more of a spin-off of some of the characters like we did with Rise of the Lycans and another film is being developed in the works with Kate possibly as well. And then there’s a television series as well. It’s kind of expanding that universe in many ways.”
Wiseman went on to imply there’s a lot of misinformation on the web about the films, so who the hell knows what’s right and wrong at this point?
But, from the sounds of it, Next Generation is the spin-off project and they’re developing a proper fifth movie that will perhaps continue the Selene story thread left hanging at the end of Underworld: Awakening.
Underworld: Next Generation is being penned by Corey Goodman (Priest) and is set to star Theo James (whose character “David” was introduced in Awakening).
Lakeshore is aiming to begin shooting in Spring 2015. The last we saw Selene, she was going to venture off to find her man Michael with their daughter in tow.
