The actress took part in a pre-screening Q&A – a rare public appearance to talk about the film with director John Carpenter and, needless to say, it was quite a treat for fans.
Carpenter was his usual honest, candid self and Curtis quickly warmed up to the crowd, got a little foul-mouthed and provided a lot of anecdotes. Particularly fun was hearing Curtis talk about how it dawned on her that she could monetize horror fandom (seems she had some catching up to do)…and turn it into something good. So, she auctioned off a mask for charity that was signed by various cast and crew members in the franchise.
Here, you’ll find seven video highlights from the evening in which Curtis admits that she’s not just “Halloween” but that she is Laurie Strode. She also recounts a pretty darn amusing story about working on The Fog. Carpenter, meanwhile, reflects on his time as a young filmmaker and the creation of Michael Myers and provides the ol’ “remake speech” we’ve heard from him a few times. It never gets old and the audience ate it up.
The night was moderated by Geoff Boucher, formerly of Hero Complex, so that’s who you may hear asking the questions. Also in attendance at last night’s screening: Brian “Tommy Doyle” Andrews and Halloween set photography Kim Gottlieb-Walker who has a new coffee table book on the way called “On the Set With John Carpenter” which collects all of the photos she took on various Carpenter productions.
