During a Reddit AMA, Justin Long – the star of this week’s release Tusk, and Jeepers Creepers and Jeepers Creepers 2 (well, he did a cameo) – responded to a question regarding Jeepers Creepers 3. His response:
There is a script (it’s called “Jeepers Creepers: Cathedral”). Gina plays the lead in it (which would be awesome to see her come back and kick some ass). It’s been tough getting off the ground, financially, unfortunately. According to Victor, I do get my hands on a flashback.
By “Gina,” he means Gina Philips, star of the original whose character saw her brother get kidnapped by the Creeper. The Cathedral script has been around for a bit, but this is the first we’re hearing about Long’s character getting a flashback of some sort.
Jeepers Creepers opened in 2001 and grossed $59 million worldwide. A sequel – Jeepers Creepers 2 – followed in 2003 and grossed $63 million worldwide. Initially, there were rumblings that Jeepers Creepers 3 was not happening due to MGM’s previous legal woes, but we’re past all of that now. Jeepers 2 is on constant rotation on SyFy, it seems. And I’ve heard the original film does great on home video.
It definitely seems puzzlings that a third film is finding trouble moving forward…
