35 years after the horror classic The Amityville Horror and ten years since the 2005 remake starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, Dimension Films are giving one of the original “based on a true story” horror movies another go with next year’s Amityville: The Awakening, directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac, P2) and starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan and Bella Thorne.
This will be the 12th film in the series–many of them, including the last two, The Amityville Haunting and The Amityville Asylum, having gone direct-to-DVD–but Dimension Films has released the first trailer for the film via Yahoo! Movies which you can check out below.
Synopsis: Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
Amityville: The Awakening is scheduled for release on January 2, 2015.
