Anatomy director Stefan Ruzowitzky has come about Patient Zero (previously reported as "Patient Z"), reports Deadline. It's the latest project from Screen Gems and, apparently, there have been some changes since we last told you about the film – they've removed the zombie element. Perhaps because Clint Culpepper at Screen Gems didn't want to get overloaded on undead fare considering he'll be overseeing another Resident Evil film soon.
Written by Mike Le, the film now goes like this:
An unprecedented global pandemic has resulted in the evolution of a new species. An aggressive form of rabies turns the infected into predators, addicted to violence. An inexplicably gifted human survivor with the ability to speak their new language spearheads a hunt for Patient Zero in order to find a cure to save his infected wife and humanity.
Le penned the upcoming Dark Summer, a film by Paul Solet, which is currently seeking distribution.
