Back in March, we spoke with Leigh Whannell, writer and co-star of the Insidious series, who said this about the upcoming third film now in development at Blumhouse Productions. “It felt like writing the first film, because I was dealing with a different family and a different group of people really, so I felt that it’s very simple. I think the first film is a very simple film–a haunting happened to this family–and the second one was a bit more complicated to plot out, so this one, it’s good to go back to the original way.”
A recent Tweet that Whannell made – and is obviously getting picked up again – somewhat reinforces that.
Insidious 3 is a lot more like part one than two. I’m working on it right now, so thought I’d tell those who care where it’s headed.

After Insidious Chapter 2, I would presume it would be “back to the basics” for the series since the Lambert family story arc featured a modicum of closure.
