Last week, American Horror Story scribe Doug Petrie confimed what we’ve been hearing for some time: That American Horror Story’s fourth season would embrace a carnival setting. This lead to some fun speculation that the season may be set around a “freak show,” a la Todd Browning’s 1932 horror classic, Freaks. Today, series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the plan is to do just that, posting the following on Twitter:

Previous reports suggest that American Horror Story: Freak Show will be set in the 1950s with Jessica Lange already confirmed to be returning (and said to have been practicing her German accent). The series’ third season, “Coven,” featured an ensemble cast that also includes Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Denis O’Hare, Patti LuPone, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe and Emma Roberts.
