Written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, the spec script was scooped up by Sony. It’s got heat because of what the story is inspired by: The Elisa Lam case. Her video (seen below) became quite popular and this was the last footage taken of her before her body was found in a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel here in Los Angeles. It’s quite a strange case because this woman acted like she was being pursued by someone who apparently isn’t there. Further, the elevator doors don’t respond to her.
Basically, a real-life case seemingly inspired by a horror movie has inspired a horror movie.
Sony and Tolmach Productions will shepherd the project which concerns a man investigating her death and the “nightmare” he uncovers.
