On opening night, the film took in $11.9 million. It’s cumulative weekend gross was $26 million, putting that at the top of the box office chart, beating Jurassic Park 3D which grossed an estimated $18.2 million.
Evil Dead‘s weekend performance beat out the original trilogy’s cumulative gross at the box office (naturally).
Jurassic Park 3D, it should be noted, out-performed Titanic 3D‘s weekend gross by a million. I think people are ready for more dinosaurs on the big screen again…
As for the Evil Dead, the film’s opening weekend success certaily helps Alvarez’s effort to get a sequel going. The director revealed at SXSW that a script was already in the works.
