Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey-Starring Vigilandia is Now The Purge, Plot Details Revealed

The two will appear in The Purge, which was formerly known as Vigilandia and is now set to open on May 31, 2013.  James DeMonaco directs, says THR, and some plot details have been revealed.  According to the site, the film is “set in an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons. Every year, the government sanctions a 24-hour period during which any and all criminal activity — including murder — is legal.  When an intruder breaks into the gated community where James Sandin (Hawke) lives, he sets off a sequence of events that threatens to tear Sandin’s family apart as they try to survive the night without turning into the monsters from which they hide.

The Purge is a joint production between Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Productions.  Universal is going to distribute.
