The sequel was up against the 3D release of Disney’s Finding Nemo. Both were able to knock The Possession down a few notches from the number one slot it held two weeks in a row.
Retribution‘s performance continues to prove there’s still an audience for the series, even though its opening gross proves that audience is dwindling.
Still, this should bolster Screen Gems’ confidence to push forward with a sixth – and supposedly final – Resident Evil film. When Shock Till You Drop spoke with Anderson in 2009, shortly before Afterlife was announced, he told us he had a story mapped out for at least three more films (a “second trilogy” he called it).
Jovovich, meanwhile, recently told us that shooting would not begin right away on part six and that it “might be a bit.” I’m suspecting we won’t see Alice and her fight with Umbrella to resume until 2014…
