The movie is the ultimate anti-bully tale, of course, with a misfit lashing out with her telekinetic abilities at her fellow high school classmates. It’s certainly thematically relevent for sure, and Peirce agrees.
The director of Boys Don’t Cry took to Facebook page recently to talk about her redo, which is scheduled to hit theaters March 15, 2013 with Chloe Moretz playing the titular character.
Peirce writes:
I am also modernizing the story as one has to in order to bring any great piece of work written in one era into the next and especially given how very relevant this material is right now.
Chloe is going deep into character to get this right….sewing her own dresses, spending time in her closet….and so much more….Thanks for all the great wishes. We are on it! And privileged to be working with such great source material.
We’re still awaiting word on the rest of Moretz’s fellow cast members. Hopefully, we’ll hear who will fill the shoes of Carrie’s mother – a role the rumor mill says will go to either Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore.
