That piece clearly needs some updating as a few more have entered the pipeline since then, including the most recent endeavor to be announced which will explore Dracula’s origins.
The untitled project was sold as a pitch to Sony and will be written by Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher). Plot details are under wraps, but it is said to look at the early days of the famous bloodsucker.
This is now the third “origin” script to go into development. Beyond this Sony deal, there is Dracula Year Zero and Vlad, written by Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam.
Dracula Year Zero is the farthest along. Gary Shore just boarded the film to direct after Alex Proyas bowed out.
With Sony’s Dracula, there is talk that should the film take off and succeed, it might launch a number of sequels, so it will not be a one-off original tale.
