Lily Collins Backs Off of The Evil Dead

He writes, “Again, in case you missed it, LILY COLLINS is OUT of THE EVIL DEAD reboot due to a scheduling issue. Agents, start your engines…”  Which now leaves the remake, directed by Fede Alvarez and re-written by Diablo Cody, without a cast.

Collins got her start in feature films with The Blind Side, then she transitioned into Priest and the upcoming Mirror, Mirror.  She’s expected to do The Mortal Instruments, but I have to wonder if “scheduling issue” means “I don’t want to star in a remake of a horror film.”

She was supposed to play a character tantamount to Ash (Bruce Campbell’s role in the original trilogy).

In the film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Shooting is expected to begin sometime this year in New Zealand.
