*Update* New Warm Bodies Images Feature Zombified Nicholas Hoult

Based on the novel by Isaac Marion, the film finds Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) playing a highly unusual zombie who rescues a girl from imminent death at the hands of his cohorts.  Their unlikely romance sets in motion a chain of events that will transform him, his fellow dead, and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

The first official stills of Hoult in the film have been released, you’ll find them after the jump along with some added plot details.

Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Cory Hardrict also star in the film.  As you can see, the make-up is making Hoult look very much….well, dead, which I find fascinating considering his character gets romantically involved in Palmer’s very-much-alive character.  Is this a reverse, sweeter and more sophisticted version of Deadgirl?  (I kid, sort of.)

Hout plays “R” and Levine explained to USA Today what his zombie lead is all about:

“So R eats brains and does all kinds of nasty stuff at first, but at his heart, he’s an innocent.”

He’s made more innocent when he chows down on the brain of a dead young man and suddenly falls madly in love with the guy’s girlfriend (Palmer). After saving the girl’s life, R begins to evolve into a more human form with a limited vocabulary (a step up from groaning) and takes part in non-zombie activities.

He attempts “to do a lot of things to varying degrees of success,” Levine says. “Driving, for instance. Let’s just say his hand-eye coordination is not what it needs to be.”
