The Resident Evil franchise is the latest to substitute a letter for a number in the title of its latest chapter. When the fifth film hits, expect to see displayed as Re5ident Evil: Retribution. That confirmation and an official plot synopsis have been released to us this morning from Sony. Head inside to learn what the film is about!

The Umbrella Corporations deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human races last and only hope, ALICE (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Okay, perhaps not the most revealing plot, but it hints that we’re going to being seeing more of the “past.”
The film opens September 14 in 3D/2D and it stars Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Michelle Rodriguez, Shawn Roberts, Johann Urb, Kevin Durand, Boris Kodjoe, Bingbing Li. Paul W.S. Anderson returns to write and direct.
