In Hollywood’s mind, it’s time to re-adapt Bret Easton Ellis’ controversial novel as a writer has been hired to bring the life of serial killer Patrick Bateman to the screen one more time.
According to Variety, Noble Jones (whose only credit is second unit assistant director work on The Social Network) is taking a crack at the script this time. Variety stresses that Lionsgate, the studio behind the project, has not given it the green light at this time. The redo is said to be a “down and dirty” re-imagining that takes place in New York today (so says Deadline).
When the first American Psycho film went in to development, it stirred up sensational headlines when folks reacted to the news that Leonard DiCaprio was circling the part of sicko Bateman. Christian Bale, ultimately, filled the psycho’s shoes.
Two years after the film’s release, Lionsgate produced American Psycho II: All-American Girl Mila Kunis.
I’m very curious to hear Ellis’ reaction to this news as he is a strong supporter of Harron’s film.
More on the remake as it develops.
