Scripted by the director of Buried
In the fall of 2010, Emergo was announced, teaming Spanish filmmaker Carles Torrens with the director of Buried, Rodrigo Cortes, who penned the script.
The film is in the can and ready to screen. It plays to those attending the American Film Market next week, in fact.
Since that last update a year ago, we’ve come to learn Kai Lennox, Michael O’Keefe, Rick Gonzalez, Fiona Glascott and Gia Mantegna star. Gonzalez you might recognize from Reaper or War of the Worlds.
What I thought was worth sharing was the write-up the film received in some AFM material:
This past Summer, the team behind “Buried” got together in a old, eerie house in Barcelona to shoot “Emergo.” Entirely in English, it is the descendant of “The Blair Witch Project” and “Rec,” but breaks away from tradition by revolutionizing filmmaking altogether. All types of cameras are used â video, HD, 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm â as we follow scientists’ footsteps through a haunted house, casting a frightening spell over the audience. Brace yourself for this terrifying experience!
“Revolutionizing filmmaking” is a pretty big deal. My curiosity is high now.
The story, which is alluded to above, concerns a group of parapsychologists who are sent into a haunted apartment complex to investigate the strange phenomena happening there.
Director Torrens’ doesn’t have that much of a resume. He’s directed a few short films and a made-for-TV movie in Spain. I’m now interested to see his spin on the haunted house sub-genre.
