The Cabin in the Woods Has a Release Date!

Lionsgate makes acquisition legit

Lionsgate has officially – and finally announced – that it has acquired the distribution rights to The Cabin in the Woods.

Now here’s some good/bad news. Bad news first: You won’t see it this year. The good news? The film has a release date.

You can expect it to arrive in theaters April 13, 2012. Here are some details.

The Cabin in the Woods was co-written by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and writer Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, and marks Goddard’s directorial debut. Whedon also produced the film, which he has described as “the horror movie to end all horror movies.” The film is wildly imaginative and intensely horrific, toying with every convention of its genre while at the same time raising their stakes exponentially.

Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth stars as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with a group of friends and ends up scratching the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.

Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J. White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz, and Jesse Williams also star in the film.
