Graphic novel and film details revealed

Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi, Desperado, Grindhouse) and Kevin Eastman are executive producing a new graphic novel, the tentatively titled “Zombie Apocalypse, for Heavy Metal.

Naturally, if you’ve got a comic book property, you’ve got to have the movie set up, so the duo have announced Chee Keong Cheung (Bodyguard: A New Beginning) will direct the film.

According to a press release that went out, “Zombie Apocalypse” is a unique combination of the action, zombie horror and war genres with the added element of mixed martial arts.

The UK-based Intense Productions is producing. Chee Keong Cheung penned the script with a trilogy in mind.

In “Zombie Apocalypse,” the undead roam the earth, wielding enhanced physical combat skills, which makes them hard to kill. A squad of eight Special Forces soldiers are sent on a suicide mission to rescue a scientist from a city ruled by the undead.

Gaining the experience and expertise of two figures that spearheaded such iconic franchises and revolutionised their respective genres, both Kevin Eastman and Carlos Gallardo will support rising talent Chee Keong Cheung’s vision for a film showcasing the action/horror genre in a way never before seen.

“Zombie Apocalypse” was co-written by Mark Strange and Steve Horvath.
