And he’s looking for your help
The last we heard about Riddick – which wasn’t that long ago – Vin Diesel was mulling over whether or not he should take a pay cut to return for a third film. The pay cut would allow the film, written and directed by David Twohy, to maintain its budget an R rating.
Twohy has now taken to his blog to chime in.
“The hurdles seem to be dropping. The final turn is being rounded. The finish line (actually a starting line) seems closer than ever,” he writes, adding now is the time to make Riddick. And if it doesn’t happen now, you can probably kiss the sequel good-bye.
The rest of his blog entry reads more like a fan “call to arms” as he urges followers of Riddick to speak out and demand a new film.
Says Twohy, “Yeah, I had some good face-time with Vin in NYC. We talked at length about where we go from here â about how to travel to all the places in the RIDDICK universe that needed travelling to â and we think we know have the Master Map. Weâll keep it tucked tightly in our breast pocket for now, but itâs enough to say that, if we can pull it all off, youâll have spent a good 15 years with us.
But Vin will be the driving force behind this next movie; Iâm merely the writer-director. Am I being facetious? Kinda. But kinda not, too: Itâs Vin and the concessions he chooses to make that will allow this movie to go forward. And his love of the character, of course. So if you, too, have a soft spot for this hardened criminal, you might want to weigh in over at that giant-ass Facebook page heâs got. Me? Iâm still part of the Facebook Resistance.”
The director cooked up the below image, entitled “The Fifth Horseman,” to generate more excitement in Diesel.
