What is being hidden from the upcoming thriller?
This week, I stepped into one of my favorite bookstores and saw that the novelization of Red Riding Hood was available.
With a forward by director Catherine Hardwicke, the book is written by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright and based on the upcoming March 11 film, furthermore, David Leslie Johnson’s script.
But there’s one catch, the publisher, Poppy, isn’t advertising to its potential buyers: This novelization doesn’t include the end of the story. Instead, it tells its readers to visit a specific website at the time of the film’s release and then the final pages of the book will be revealed.
Backlash is already being felt. The bookstore owner told me he’s received a number of complaints and I’m starting to see comments pop up on the book’s Amazon page.
Film novelizations have always interested me because some feature scenes not in the final movie or delve deeper into the story than the film is allowed to go.
I think this is the first time a novelization has pulled a stunt like this.
It’s an obvious tip-off that there is a “big reveal” at the end of Red Riding Hood that the studio doesn’t want public.
