Updates from the Paranormal Activity producers
Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider are not only known for Paranormal Activity now; they’re carving out their own little corner in the horror market with their Haunted Movies production outfit.
This entity is hooking up with Alliance Films and they’re touting a trio of films, including Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem, which we’ve heard little about since it was first announced.
Reps tell us Zombie will begin shooting as early as this spring on his latest original horror film. The story, set against the backdrop of modern day Salem, Massachusetts, follows 300-year-old witches who rise to haunt the town with their demonic powers.
Also on the Haunted/Alliance slate, Barry Levinson’s The Bay, about parasites that take over a Maryland town. The first images from that thriller will be presented to attendees of the European Film Market in Berlin. James Wan’s Insidious is going to have a presence there as well. That film opens domestically April 1.
Producer Jason Blum said, “We can’t wait to unveil the first images from Barry Levinson’s terrifying new movie The Bay and to showcase Insidious and Lords of Salem for the international market. Itâs been a privilege to collaborate with the team at Alliance which has given us the creative control to develop such dynamic projects from these three spectacularly talented filmmakers.”
Haunted Movies is also getting into the television space with The River, a horror drama in the vein of Paranormal Activity about a family who travels to the deep Amazon to locate and rescue their missing father, which just landed at ABC.
