SDCC ’10: 3D Release Undecided for Cabin in the Woods

Whedon wants it left alone in 2D

The process is happening, or has happened, so where does The Cabin in the Woods stand as far as it being released in 3D?

If you recall, the film was pushed an entire year by MGM so it could be converted into the popular process. Joss Whedon told an audience yesterday on a panel that the decision was made because the studio felt every horror film is being released in 3D.

But Whedon – a co-writer of the film which was directed by Drew Goddard – doesn’t believe it should be released in 3D. Particular scenes, he said, were shot very John Carpenter-esque and are best suited for the 2D format.

“What we’re hoping to do is to be the only horror movie coming out that is not in 3D,” Whedon said.

So is it being released in 3D or 2D? There was no definitive answer given. As we near the film’s January 14, 2011 release date, I’m sure we’ll hear more.
