Summit has a new potential franchise
Summit Entertainment has acquired the pitch The Last Witch Hunter from Cory Goodman.
The writer behind the upcoming Priest, Goodman has crafted a tale about a witch hunter who is seeing a surge in warlocks and witches and, as Deadline reports, he needs to keep the population “in check.” Summit is thinking “franchise” with this, of course.
The Last Witch Hunter is the second Hollywood film concerning this particular subject matter. Tommy Wirkola is set to direct Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters for Gary Sanchez Productions.
Timur Bekmambetov is in line to produce alongside executive producer Adam Goldworm. Bekmambetov directed Nightwatch, Daywatch and Wanted. He might direct Witch Hunter.
Goodman also wrote The Brood remake.
Witch hunters have been he subject of various horror films. Vincent Price was in arguably the best, Michael Reeves’ Witchfinder General, in 1968.
