Paramount’s Micro Budget Film Company Gets Name

Backing more Paranormal Activity-sized films

Emboldened by the success of Paranormal Activity, Paramount announced it was going to create a new branch that would support low budget productions.

According to Indie Wire, a million dollars has been injected into the recently-named Insurge Pictures. Ten films are on the development slate, all budgeted at $100 thousand. The forthcoming site for Insurge will read: “We want to find and distribute crazy, unpredictable, and hopefully awesome movies – movies that make you want to line up to see at your local theater with all your friends (and us). Movies that a big studio would never release because they’re too risky, too silly, and they don’t star Sandra Bullock.”

Cute.

More details are coming – perhaps a look at upcoming projects. Now, this doesn’t mean they’re all going to be genre-based, of course, but perhaps a few horror films will be ushered in under this new umbrella.
