Should Joe Dante return to direct?
Scroll down for an update!
The same blog that reported that Ghostbusters 3 is in consideration to be shot in 3D is now reporting on another interesting rumor. Market Saw says that a “top source” tells them another Gremlins movie is in the very early stages with the intent to shoot it in stereoscopic 3D. While it’s not clear if this would be a remake of the original Gremlins or a proper Gremlins 3 sequel, the report indicated that it’s definitely not a conversion of the original film into 3D.
Of note, the blog speculates that the idea of a 3D Gremlins movie isn’t far fetched considering Joe Dante’s latest feature The Hole has been getting critical praise and is also in 3D.
Should Dante return to helm another Gremlins movie? In 3D no less? That original is still a holiday classic. What do you guys think?
Just like the Ghostbusters 3D story, consider this rumor until we hear otherwise.
Update: MTV spoke with Dante shortly after the rumor broke. According to the director – and this has been echoed in many interviews with him – “These things come up from time to time. I don’t know of anything officially that’s going on.”
It’s possible Warner Bros. is pursuing a threequel without Dante; then again, this could just be another rumor-mongering attempt to drum up traffic. Time will tell.
