Spooky Dan invades the annual indie festival

Shriekfest has become one of the festivals that truly embraces the indie culture of horror and has grown to be one of the more important stops for indie horror filmmakers. With its punk rock attitude and edgy choices in the films that are showcased Shriekfest remains one of the festivals screening films from emerging artists and filmmakers like no other. With over 40 movies screened, 3 parties and a newly revamped website, this years four days were jam packed! You could not walk out of the theaters without running into distributors, filmmakers and loads of horror fans.

The big winners this year… Taking home the Best Horror Feature Film Award Darin Scott’s Dark House starring Jeffrey Combs and Diane Salinger. Best Horror Fantasy film went to the very strange and very atmospheric Spike directed by Robert Beaucage. And the audience choice award went to Travis Betz for his bizarre and visually stunning Lo. (Full list of winners below)

On a fan level, what sets Shriekfest apart from the many other awesome horror film festivals is the community vibe that continues throughout the year at their monthly horror networking event; held at Hollywood Billiards the last Tuesday of every month, the meet-ups are free and open to the public. Over the years, I have seen many filmmakers build friendships, full crews and met hundreds of amazing people. See you there!

In the above video, Spooky Dan chats with filmmakers Jack Daniel Stanley (A Little Mouth To Feed), Chris Conlee (Evilution), Travis Betz (Lo), Tammi Sutton (Sutures), Darin Scott (Dark House) and many, many more. Check it out below and you can also see a list of this years winning films and filmmakers at Spooky Dan’s blog or at the Shriekfest website here.
