The writer and director of Dread
Anthony DiBlasi is currently in Montreal where he’s about to unveil his Clive Barker adaptation Dread (set visit preview) to Fantasia Film Festival audiences. Up next for him is a take on another Barker property “Pig Blood Blues,” but what hasn’t been revealed until now is that he’s also adapting Barker’s “The Damnation Game” for Phoenix Pictures.
The tale, published in ’85, tells of a man, fresh out of prison and the supernatural events he gets involved with when he takes a job as a bodyguard for Joseph Whitehead. During World War II, Whitehead made a Faust-like bargain with a devilish figure named Mamoulian.
Much like Dread, “Damnation Game” is one of those stories that has been kicked through various stages of development over the last decade. In fact, there was a time Sean Connery was rumored to star.
