Piranha 3D Swimming into 2010

Dimension sets new release date

Piranha 3D was never going open in 2009. Maybe once, when Alex Aja was originally going to begin shooting in the fall of last year. But now that principal photography has been pushed to this spring, you’ll have to wait and see the furious hungry fish in 2010.

Dimension Films announced the remake of Joe Dante’s campy horror film will hit theaters on March 19, 2010.

Why? Preparation. Aja told us recently that he has to do what’s best for the movie. Shooting in cold temperatures is not one of them. Plus, he has to ready the production for 3-D, a feat made even more challenging by the film’s required underwater photography.

Casting and more news is forthcoming, so hold on tight!
