Exclusive: First Photo of Sack Head Jason Voorhees!

From the upcoming Friday the 13th

Before making the hockey mask something his own in ’82 – a signature visage that would grace t-shirts, costumes, toys and lunchboxes – Jason Voorhees stalked the wooded environs of Crystal Lake with his head covered in something you’d find on the malformed noggin’ of John Merrick: A burlap sack. In Friday the 13th Part 2 he tormented Amy Steel and company in an ill-fitting bag with a single eye hole to peer out of. The creative team behind the upcoming Friday the 13th (set visit) are re-introducing this disguise and we’ve got your exclusive first look with the photo you see below.

Producer Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes tells us “sack head Jason” dipped in an out of various script drafts. “But it was [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift who came up with giving the film that seminal moment where you go from the baghead to the hockey mask,” he says. “That was something that we all wanted to do in the movie. If we’re going to be true to what we’re doing here, and tell – obviously not a remake of the first movie and it’s not a sequel – key moments from all of the movies, we really wanted to integrate it in our own way.” FX artists Scott Stoddard is responsible for designing the streamlined appearance you see. “He is so good that what he gives us is what we go with, that was the case here. He just hit a home run with it and we just loved the design.”

Which version of “sack head Jason” do you prefer? This new “snug fit” approach, or, the ol’ “I just raided a pillow party” look? Comment below!

Friday the 13th – starring Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Derek Mears, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle and Aaron Yoo – opens in theaters on February 13th.
