Orphanage Helmer is on Board Hater

Produced by Guillermo Del Toro

One of the many projects Guillermo del Toro is attached to is moving forward with Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) attached to direct. Similar to their duties on Orphanage, del Toro is producing, Bayona will direct.

Glen Mazzara scripted this adaptation of author David Moody’s novel about a wave of violence that spreads like an epidemic in ordinary people.

According to Variety, Hater landed at Universal under del Toro’s first-look deal there. Mazzara, a writer on The Shield, was set at that time. Del Toro was originally approached by Johnson to direct, but his schedule on two installments of The Hobbit made that impossible.

The film is set in the U.S., and while exteriors will be shot locally when the film gets under way next year, Johnson hopes to shoot the interiors in Spain.
