Possible new month for “8 Films”
After Dark Films’ Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For could be uprooting from its usual early-November slot and settling into a new month. Sources tell ShockTillYouDrop.com the production outfit, operated by Courtney Solomon, may position its third year in January 2009. The move is to distance the fest from October’s spate of fright flicks among other reasons.
January is by no means a dry month for horror with Possession, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and The Uninvited offering horror fans something to sink their teeth into after the holidays. Still, after Horrorfest 2’s box office performance last year (only an estimated $874,635 according to Box Office Mojo) raised a red flag, insiders agree After Dark needs to change its strategy.
For its third go at the fest, After Dark already has four out of the eight films lined up: Sean Ellis’ The Broken, The Butterfly Effect 3, Faithless and Perkins’ 14.
