Nicotero talks Piranha, Mirrors and more
People ask Greg Nicotero of KNB EFX all of the time if makeup maestros of his ilk are at all deterred by the constant advancements in CGI. His answer is always a pleasant ‘no’ followed by KNB’s busy slate of projects.
For example, “We’re finishing Jennifer’s Body, we just did some stuff for Wes [Craven] on The Last House on the Left, David Goyer directed a movie called The Unborn for Platinum Dunes,” Nicotero recently told us. “We did the mini-series, The Pacific for Spielberg which is the companion piece to Band of Brothers so we’re certainly not in any danger of running out of prosthetics or things to do.”
Indeed.
Turning to the future, KNB will reunite with directors Joe Dante and Mick Garris for their respective feature films now in development. The FX shop is also swimming into Alexandre Aja’s latest endeavor. “We’re probably going to start Piranha. It’s pretty straight-forward, it’s Girls Gone Wild with boobs and blood and piranha. You can’t really mess that up.”
“But this summer we’ve got [Aja’s] Mirrors coming out which I just saw the last twenty-five minutes of which I thought was great,” he adds. “Alex is an amazing director.”
This summer, KNB is also working on Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell.
