New writer loses his head for Romero classic
Production outfit Penn Station is taking measures to keep The Crazies remake afloat.
An industry source tells us Penn producers Dean Georgaris and Michael Aguilar (Damn Nation) brought Ray Wright on board (presumably pre-strike) to work on the script. Wright’s credits include Pulse and this year’s Case 39, directed by Christian Alvart and starring Renee Zellweger. It’s unclear if the project still resides at Paramount.
The Crazies, an update of George Romero’s 1973 homeland viral terror flick, was originally set up as a directing vehicle for Session 9‘s Brad Anderson. It would reunite him with The Machinist scribe Scott Kosar who penned a draft.
In the original, a small Pennsylvania town and its residents are accidentally exposed to a biological weapon. The side effect: Insanity. As the Army moves in to quarantine the town, a pair of firefighters attempt to evade soldiers, the “crazies” and infection.
