Update: Romanek Leaves Wolfman Remake!

Universal seeks new director

Bad news for Universal’s update of The Wolfman. Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood reports director Mark Romanek has quit his position on the remake over budget concerns.

“He’s a purist, an artiste, an exquisite craftsman, but he just had a budget schedule he couldn’t accomodate,” an insider tells Finke. Romanek reportedly was working with a $100 million budget. This now leaves ol’ Wolfie sniffing around for a new helmer.

Update: Variety confirms Romanek’s departure and cites “creative differences.” Universal is moving quick to find a replacement, however, it’s unknown if the original February 18th principal photography start date will hold.

The Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt. Andrew Kevin Walker penned the script and Rick Baker is bringing the titular man-beast to life.
