Uncertain Future for Diary of the Dead

Romero holds a gun to sequel talks

A follow-up to George Romero’s Diary of the Dead: A pipe dream buried six feet under or reality?

Last week, the Hollywood trades reported spring was the start date for an Untitled Diary of the Dead Sequel. Hell, a sales poster was even made for the American Film Market. But ol’ George recently served up a shotgun blast of reality at a London screening of “Diary.”

“I’m not sure where that came from,” he told an IGN correspondent. “I wouldn’t mind continuing the discussion, but nothing is decided yet. Euphoria seems to have set in even though the film has only screened about six times.”

He continued by say, “The only way I can see it being worthwhile is if we use the same characters, which would be the first time I have done that. I don’t have an idea yet, but if the idea and the money can meet somewhere in the middle, it’s possible.”

No idea? Then what of the official plot synopsis that leaked onto the web and was subsequently echoed on sales sheets at the AFM? (Read it here but beware of spoilers.) Well, we’re sure there’s more to this story and we’ll bring you the latest as it comes in.
