Has NCIS Season 23 Been Canceled or Renewed?

Many are wondering whether CBS has canceled or renewed NCIS Season 23. Created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, the military police procedural drama series focuses on Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, who works for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He leads his team in investigating and solving cases involving Navy and Marine Corps personnel.

With Season 22 having concluded, fans want to know whether another installment is expected. Here are the details.

Is NCIS Season 23 canceled by CBS?

No, CBS has renewed NCIS for Season 23.

CBS announced the renewal of NCIS Season 23 in February 2025, alongside several other shows including Elsbeth and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. In an interview with TV Line, NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder shared some insights on the next season following the heartbreaking Season 22 finale.

He stated that Season 23 will not include the typical three-month time jump but will instead pick up directly after Season 22. “I don’t think we’re going to time jump, for the reasons I just said. We’re going to keep the heat going [on the Parker storyline]. That’s something we’re deciding right now, but we want to keep the momentum going,” he said.

Wilmer Valderrama, who plays Nick Torres, also appeared on CBS Mornings to discuss how the shocking death in the finale sets the tone for the next season. He explained that the team might “go rogue” in response to the tragedy. Describing the setup for Season 23, he added, “The biggest idea was to say, ‘How do we disrupt the peace of season 22 and set up the tone for season 23?’ And this episode does that better than we’ve done in many years.”

At the time of writing, CBS has not released plot details or a premiere date. However, if the show follows previous patterns, it may return in fall 2025.

All NCIS seasons are available to stream on Paramount+.
