John Abraham‘s highly anticipated action-thriller Vedaa is gearing up to make a grand entrance in theaters on Friday. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, this film promises to be a standout release, combining high-octane action with a compelling social message. As the release date approaches, here’s everything you need to know about Vedaa.
What is John Abraham’s Vedaa release date?
Vedaa is slated for release on August 15, 2024, aligning with India’s Independence Day. This timing sets up a thrilling competition at the box office. After all, Vedaa will face off against two other highly anticipated films: Khel Khel Mein and Stree 2. The simultaneous release of these films is expected to create a buzz and attract substantial attention from moviegoers.
The trailer for Vedaa has successfully ramped up excitement by offering a glimpse into its intense plot. The film explores themes of caste discrimination and untouchability, following the journey of an ex-army officer and a common girl who unite to challenge systemic oppression.
In the trailer, John Abraham’s character, Major Abhimanyu Kanwar, is shown reciting a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita while battling adversaries. Having been court-martialed for defying orders, Abhimanyu takes on the role of a mentor to Sharvari’s character, Vedaa. Vedaa, who comes from an oppressed caste, faces harassment from an upper-caste individual. Seeking justice, she approaches Abhimanyu to learn self-defense and combat techniques.
The story unfolds as Abhimanyu trains Vedaa, transforming her into a daunting fighter. The trailer also introduces Abhishek Banerjee as an influential villain who is the face of caste-based discrimination and cruelty. In the end, it also reveals a powerful climax, with John Abraham’s character referring to himself as Sharvaris ‘saarthi’ (charioteer). It is basically a nod to the Mahabharata, which challenges her to break the ‘chakravyuh’ (military formation) of discrimination.
Currently, the makers haven’t revealed Vedaa’s OTT release date and platform details. However, based on association, the film might release on ZEE5.
Vedaa cast: John Abraham, Sharvari & more
Vedaa features an ensemble cast, with John Abraham and Sharvari in the lead roles. Tamannaah Bhatia appears as Abhimanyu’s love interest, while Mouni Roy contributes to a dance sequence. In addition, the supporting cast includes notable actors such as Mahadev Singh Lakhawat, Kapil Nirmal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajendra Chawla, Kshitij Chauhan, and Kumud Mishra.
Moreover, Vedaa marks John Abraham’s reunion with director Nikkhil Advani, who previously collaborated with him on the successful film Batla House. The film is produced by Zee Studios in association with Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment.
In other news, Sharvari has expressed her excitement about venturing into the action genre with Variety. “I want to be known as someone who can do action very well and hopefully become an action star in due course of time.” She further added, “Action as a genre is too entertaining and gives a huge adrenaline rush for the actors as well as the audience. Vedaa is the start of my journey in trying to be good at it.”
Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the film’s villain, shared his approach to creating a memorable screen presence. “Power comes from the mind, not from the body,” he said. He drew inspiration from iconic villains like Gabbar Singh from Sholay and Mogambo from Mr India, aiming to evoke a similar sense of fear and tension. Banerjee’s goal is to create a character who commands attention and heightens the stakes for John Abraham as a hero.
Just days before its release, Vedaa received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), earning a U/A certificate. After incorporating the board’s suggested cuts, the final runtime of the film is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Keep an eye out for Vedaa as it gears up for its debut on August 15, 2024.
