K-pop Group Blackswan’s ‘Roll Up’ MV & Lyrics explained

K-pop rising icons Blackswan has released their comeback extended play, Roll Up, with the title track of the same name. The catchy lyrics of “Roll Up” have made the new title song an instant earworm.

Blackswan has rebranded itself a few times. The group originally debuted Rania in 2011 with the mini-album Teddy Riley, the First Expansion In Asia. Over the next ten years, the group faced multiple hiatus, and the original members departed as their contract with the music agency, DR.

Currently, Blackswan has only four active members: Fatou, Gabi, Sriya, and NVee. Under the new formation of the act, the 2024 EP Roll Up will be the first EP release. Previously, Blackswan released a few single albums and a studio album, Goodbye Rania.

What does Blackswan’s ‘Roll Up’ MV lyrics mean?

Blackswan brings the summer heat to K-pop with their “Roll Up” MV, which explores a bohemian theme with sassy lyrics. The music video shows the overflowing confidence of the members as the group sings, “When I step in the room like that/ All eyes on me/ You are so bad/ everyone says you are bad/ But it makes me feel curious/ I’m catching your attention/ But I don’t mind/ From now on I’mma move like that/ I know I’m the best.”

The theme of confidence also comes back in the pre-chorus when the group croons: “Let me show you real bad, show you my confidence/ Feeling different/ You can come with Me/ Please come in here it’s A-list/ The World is our agit.”

Blackswan’s “Roll Up” has been hailed by fans as a ‘flawless’ title track. Within hours of its release, the song garnered over 167k views. On the day of its release, it charted at 57 on South Korea’s music platform Melon.

The eight-track EP has also made its mark on real-time album charts. On July 31, the mini-album ranked 14th on the Hanteo real-time chart.
