YG Entertainment’s rookie K-pop act, BabyMonster, dropped their pre-released single, “Forever,” ahead of the comeback schedule. The newbie group’s latest music video impressed fans, crossing over 10 million views within a day of its release. Fans also talked about the catchy lyrics of “Forever,” which lend the song a new edge.
After Blackpink, BabyMonster‘s reign in K-pop is somewhat precedented. The girl group’s agency, YG Entertainment, has cracked the formula for impressing young Korean music fans. So it was expected that BabyMonster’s MV “Batter Up” would become the most-viewed debut single, collecting over 22.5 million views within a day.
Since then, BabyMonster has also released its first album in April 2024. The single album sold over half a million copies within a week of its release. It reached number 3 on South Korea’s Circle Album Chart and 15 on Billboard US World Chart.
BabyMonster’s ‘Forever’: What do the lyrics mean?
BabyMonster is carrying the Blackpink‘s legacy forward with their new single “Forever” lyrics. The song could mean a new anthem for young girls who want to believe in themselves unconditionally without compromising based on someone’s expectations.
The girls, including Asa, Chiquita, Rora, Ahyeon, and Ruka, declare to the world, “I got no worries on my mind, I’m never gonna stop/ So you can say goodbye (Bye, bye, bye)/ I’ll fulfill my fantasy, and you can watch and see/ Why don’t you clap for me/ Shine so bright, they say, “She looking flawless”/ I know (I was born like this)/ She’s unlike unlike anybody/ Here, there going crazy everywhere/ A.B.C.D.E.F.G. She’s so naughty/ Gotta, gotta go, so c’est la vie.”
‘C’est la vie’ translates to “That’s life.” So, the girls reveal their life mantra: They don’t need to be like anyone but themselves. The song’s empowering lyrics and meaning have earned it the title of the new youth anthem.
Meanwhile, “Forever” is just the beginning for BabyMonster. Reports say the group will release a full-length album in October. A YG executive confirmed the reports, adding that the group will make TV and radio appearances to promote the song before the album’s release.
