Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 3: Were Osha & Mae Created By the Force?

Following the release of Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 3, viewers want to know whether Osha and Mae (Amandla Stenberg) were created by the Force. The third episode provides the backstory of the twins, depicting what became the most traumatic day of their lives. Episode 3 reveals that the girls were part of a coven of witches, who seem to have access to the Force. However, they refer to it as the thread and reject certain views that the Jedi have about it. Like the older women, Osha and Mae can also pull the thread, and it is implied that their conception wasn’t natural.

Here is what we have learned about Osha and Mae’s birth and if they were created by the Force.

Were Osha and Mae created by the Force in Star Wars: The Acolyte?

While the details about Osha and Mae’s conception have not been revealed entirely as of episode 3, Mother Aniseya, the head of the coven, does imply that she created them using the Force. Moreover, Mother Koril, who carried Osha and Mae to term, asks Aniseya what will happen if the Jedi discover how the latter created the girls. This indicates that the method Aniseya used probably falls within the sphere of what the Jedi regards as the Dark Side of the Force.

Interestingly, their birth connects the girls to Anakin Skywalker, who was also born without a biological father. The belief is that his conception was caused by the midi-chlorians: microscopic, sapient lifeforms that live within the cells of every living organism and serve as the conduit for the Force. Further, the witches seem to regard the birth of the girls as a miracle, just like how some members of the Jedi Order will think about Anakin and his conception decades later.

Darth Sidious once claimed that his master Darth Plagueis found a way to create life by influencing the midi-chlorians. Given what Koril says in episode 3, she and Aniseya perhaps used a similar method. With both of them dead, the mystery surrounding the twin’s birth will potentially remain unsolved. However, it appears to be an important part of the narrative, and as the series continues to explore the similarities and differences between the two girls, it might go back once again and explain exactly how they were created.
